Barker tops the field at Chaumont Bay!

                                         Harrington’s back in the saddle!

Salt City Bassmaster’s held their second points tournament at Chaumont Bay on July 14th.  As usual for the area, wind was a factor and overall weights were down from previous years. 34 anglers participated in the event only 7 of which brought in limits.  The average bag this year was a mere 5.51lbs.  The individuals with the most success managed to find good limits of Largemouth’s although a few nice Smallmouths were brought to the scale as well.  Many anglers suspect that besides the windy conditions, the time of year played the biggest factor in the day’s quality of fishing.

1st Place- Eric Barker 15.98 lbs

LUNKER- 4.11 lbs

2nd Place- Jack Harrington 14.23 lbs \ 13. 98 w\ one dead fish penalty

Eric and Jack started their day trying to get a reaction bite on top-water baits, spinner-baits and crank-baits to no avail. After about and hour of Jack broke down and started throwing a Black 5” weightless Senko.  Jack managed to boat a nice Largemouth to get the day started.  Eric wisely made the switch as well.  The duo fished multiple colors of Senko’s for the duration of the day, moving in and out of areas picking up a couple of fish each time.  Slow and steady was the name of the game.  Many of the fish were caught while the bait was being “dead sticked.” These guys dialed in on the pattern and brought in over 30 lbs of Largemouth’s which blew away the field.  Way to go guys!

3rd Place- Patrick Grady 13.02 lbs

Patrick focused on areas that in his words “hold BIG fish.”  He got his day started with a couple nice Smallmouths in 3-7 feet of scattered weeds and rocks.  Pat threw a drop-shot rig with a 5” black and Blue Senko and a Mellon Pepper Senko the entire duration of the day. After getting the ball rolling, Pat moved to an area to focus on big Largemouth’s.  Pat spent his time along a deep weed line in his second spot and started culling with the green backs.  Pat rounded out his day with a great limit and 240 points to boot. Watch out for Pat he means business!
