LaManche and Stewart share victory at Oneida

Salt City Bassmaster’s held their 4th point’s tournament of the 2007 season at Oneida Lake on August 12th.  44 anglers participated in the event.  The weather was fantastic. The winds were light and the sun was dominant and so were the Smallmouth’s. 15 limits were brought to the scales and only a handful consisted of “green backs.”

1st Place- Randy LaManche 13.81 lbs

Randy goes “back to back” winning Oneida… This year he switched tactics from Largemouth’s to Smallmouth’s. He focused on 8 to 12 feet of water with sparse weeds. He threw a Mellon Pepper tender tube w/ a 3/8’s oz exposed hook jig most of the day. In the morning he dragged the tube to entice the Smallmouth’s, but as the day drew on he started popping and ripping the tube to trigger a response. Only one other fish, a Largemouth fell victim to a 5 inch Black w/ Blue Flake Senko.

1st Place- Carl Stewart 13.81 lbs

Carl boated a great limit of Smallmouth’s, as well as 247.50 points to go towards the standings.  Like Randy, Carl primarily used a Mellon Pepper Tube with an exposed hook jig. Carl had a 4 spot milk run that he was doing a rotation on all day. Each time he would catch a fish or two in a spot then he would pack up and go to the next one. His fish mostly came out of the 10 foot deep range with scattered weeds. Great job Carl!

3rd Place- Tom Pavolot 12.31 lbs

3 dead fish cost Tom 3rd place to himself… Instead he has to share the spot. Tom fished in 2-10 feet of water through out the day. He used a 4” plastic minnow on a drop shot rig as well as a Green Pumpkin Spider grub. He boated all Smallmouths and focused on weed lines to get them.

3rd Place- Butch Edwards 12.31 lbs

Lunker 4lbs 1 oz.

Butch had the Senko working again. Watermelon was the color. He was fishing 4-8 feet of water in search of “mailboxes.” He got all Largemouth’s on the day. This guy is a big fish magnet. Watch out for him!

Signing off,

Randy
